Corey Foster

Drummer Composer Educator

Corey Foster was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. He began playing snare drum at five years old, and Drum set by 8. He graduated high school in three years, was part of both the Portland Youth Jazz Orchestra and Farnell Newton's PDX Jazz project.

In the Fall of 2011 Foster attended Berklee College of Music on scholarship. He studied performance with Bob Gullotti, Ralph Peterson, Henrique De Almeida, Tony Thunder Smith, Skip Hadden, Jackie Santos, and Jon Hazila. Foster was awarded the prestigous Avedis Zildjian award in the Spring of 2014 by Zildjian Cymbal Company. Soon after, Foster graduated Cum Laude from Berklee in the Fall of 2014.

Foster's recording and performing career took off immediately - working with producer Alexis Rodriguez (Silver Gun Records), The Symptoms, and other Boston area bands.

In 2015 he moved back to Portland, Oregon to settle into the famed Northwest music scene in which he was raised. Within a year, Foster was playing with countless local acts and released his first album, Taking Root, with his new band the Corey Foster Collective.

Soon after its release, Foster got the call to join the nationally touring Reggae Fusion band Indubius. Foster toured the country with Indubious, opened for all of the Marley’s, Steel Pulse, and played major festivals like Kaya Fest, Shangri-La, Pyro Fest, and many others. Foster Recorded and engineered the drum sessions for two of the Indubious albums, From Zero and Beleaf. Both hit the top of the Billboard Music Reggae charts. (From Zero #3, and Beleaf #1). Foster left the band in the Fall of 2019 to pursue his career.

In 2019 the building of what would become Foster's private recording studio commenced. By March 2020, Rooted Rhythm recording studio was finished. The studio immediately served as a remote drum set, overdubbing, and private lesson studio.

Since 2019, Foster has continued to record for local artist, and for several artists in LA on the Silver Gun Records label. His private lesson studio is a drumming home to 30+ diligent students per week.

In the summer of 2022, Foster started Rooted Rhythm - a small business with an online store, and offering private lessons and recording services.

In September of 2022, Foster released a line of cymbals with handmade turkish boutique cymbal company, Soultone Cymbals. The Eşsiz line was designed entirely by Foster. These cymbals are now available at https://rootedrhythmmusic.com/
